The Pilates Method
The Pilates method (originally called ‘Contrology’) was developed over 100 years ago by Joseph Pilates 1881-1967.
His technique unites mind and body to improve strength, flexibility, mobility, overall health and a sense of well being. The Pilates method is designed to restore balance to the body and develop efficiency in movement. The technique is particularly helpful in uncovering areas of imbalance in the body, working to correct this can help to prevent injury.
Classes will focus on specific areas individually, whilst also using exercises that integrate the whole body to re-educate and restore it to optimum function.
Quotes from “Return to Life Through Contrology” published in 1945 & “Your Health” 1934 by Joseph H. Pilates
‘A few well-designed movements, properly performed in a balanced sequence, are worth hours of doing sloppy calisthenics or forced contortion.’
‘Physical fitness is the first requisite of happiness. Our interpretation of physical fitness is the attainment and maintenance of a uniformly developed body with a sound mind fully capable of naturally, easily, and satisfactorily performing our many and varied daily tasks with spontaneous zest and pleasure.’
‘Pilates develops the body uniformly, corrects wrong postures, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind and elevates the spirit.’
